Michael is a seasoned civil litigator who represents clients in bad faith cases against insurance companies who have wrongfully denied policyholder claims. Guided by a lifelong commitment to civil rights and the pursuit of justice for individuals deprived of the treatment, support and compensation to which they are entitled, Michael advocates zealously on behalf of his clients to ensure they receive the greatest degree of recompense possible.
Prior to joining Kantor & Kantor, Michael worked predominantly in plaintiff’s side employment law, representing employees in class action wage and hour and representative PAGA lawsuits, as well as representing single plaintiffs in actions asserting claims for harassment, discrimination and retaliation based on protected characteristics, and wrongful termination. In addition, Michael worked briefly as coverage counsel for a major Fortune 500 commercial property insurer, though he quickly found that his values aligned far more closely with policyholders than insurers. Michael began his career at a pro-bono firm representing homeless and disabled veterans seeking recovery of service-connected benefits and non-service-connected pensions before the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, along with military discharge upgrades and misdemeanor expungements.
Michael is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts throughout California and is accredited by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Office of the General Counsel to represent veterans in administrative benefits cases.
Michael was born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado but has lived in Southern California for the last 20 years or so. During law school, Michael worked as a research assistant studying International Humanitarian Law with an emphasis on assessing the United Nations’ Responsibility to Protect norm as applied to Middle East conflicts, as well as Chinese territorial expansion projects in the South China Sea—notably those in the Spratly and Paracel Islands. In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn baby boy, especially cooking, antiquing and thrifting, and visiting museums, botanical gardens, and National Parks.
